Wish I was in a cold place

Even though it started raining these past few days, I still cannot feel the relief. My rashes are still breaking out and I am trying my best not to take any medications so that my liver will not suffer.

I just dream that I am in a cold place, warming myself in an outdoor fireplace while having a glass of wine with my friends. Oh, I just love the thought of it. But for now, I still have to do mu best and not be paralyzed with the heat.

I am practicing mind over matter nowadays. I cannot even practice yoga cause I feel dizzy every time. Soon, this will all normalize.

We'll be back to school

In less than a month, the kids will be back to school once again. This school year, I will two high school students already. Time flies so fast. Raising two teenagers can be quite a challenge but as long they still listen to me, I guess we are on the right track.

As a preparation for this school year, we're already done with shopping for their school needs. My boy needed new school uniforms since he jumped from grade school to high school, so he gets the lump of the shopping expense. Now, it's my turn to wrap their school books and make custom name tags for their things. It's an annual thing for me. I remember when they were little, they would choose their favorite cartoon character as a design for their name tags. Now that they are older, they prefer the simpler designs.

Soon, they will not be needing my inputs for all their stuff but for now, as long as they need me, I shall always be there for them. Never mind if people call me "stage mom", it will all come to pass. I love being a mom and it fulfills me to give in to their requests.

TV's conking out

Watching TV is one of our bonding moments at home. Not only do we watch TV shows but we keep abreast with the current events on by watching the news so when our TV is conking out, it's a must that we have to have it repaired or if budget permits, find a new one.

There are a lot of TV in the market today. I am looking at the one with wireless internet. However, it's quite pricey so I guess we need to save up for it. For space saving, a tv stand with mount is quite applicable. as to what brand? Well it all depends on the budget. The more important thing is that we still have something to use.

Loving American Idol

American Idol is now on its eleventh season adn I have to admit that it's the first time I have bee hooked. My daughter has been watching American Idol ever since but I didn't have so much interest then until now. Why? It's because of Fil-Mexican Jessica Sanchez.

The sixteen year old contender has captivated me and since then I have been awaiting each episode. I had goose bumps when judge, Jennifer Lopez (followed by the rest of judges) snatched the microphone away from Jessica and declared that they are using their only "save" after she was voted off. The girl is a fantastic singer. You sometimes cannot imagine where that powerful voice is coming from with her petite figure.

I once had a dream of becoming a singer. I still wish I pursued that dream and had a formal training. Hubby and I would even make music together. Him, being the pianist and I will be singing, to my mother-in-law's delight. Even hubby dreams of having his own music equipment. Well, who knows? Maybe someday we maybe able to afford those m audio equipment to record our own songs. (wink)

Going back to Jessica Sanchez, as the last episode unfolds, she might be at the bottom three basing on what the judges have said. No matter what happens, Jessica is a star! I firmly believe that she will have a bright future as a singer.

I love baking!

Yummy Fruit TartIf there’s one thing I really love to do nowadays is to take up a course in Pastry Making. Oh, I love baking! Even if I didn’t have any formal lessons, I have tried doing my own chocolate chip cookies, oatmeal cookies and Food for the Gods. I even sold them during Christmas. But I want a more professionalized look for my pastries. ... just like the one in the photo :-)

I guess I just need to save up for this. With my kid’s going to school, it’s kinda hard to prioritize but I promise to make time and make it possible. For someone, who loves cooking, nothing is impossible.

I remember when Hubby and me talk about our dream house. I keep telling him to stay off the kitchen, I will do the design for that. Why not? I’ll be the one using it, ain’t that right? I want my kitchen to be spic and span, complete with all the necessary cabinets to store everything, of course, I want all my kitchen gadgets (equipment) to be within reach. More importantly, my kitchen should always be clean and free of garbage---what’s the use of all the rack sack bags available. It's made to avoid messy kitchens.

Going back, I hope one day I can blog about my experience in pastry school.

Mom's Day is almost here..

Mother's Day always fall on the second Sunday of May here in the Philippines and this year it will fall on the 13th of May.

It's fast approaching and in honor of the most influential women in our lives I believe we should be preparing a little something for them. A token just to show them how much we appreciate their love. I believe that the Filipino culture, with its closely knit family ties, celebrate Mother's Day in a more intimate or "mushy" way. Some treat their mothers to a lunch or dinner out, shopping--- which any mother would be thrilled to have, a little "ME" time to pamper herself, and a lot of other activities to recognize our moms. And for those who cannot be with their moms physically, a phone call or an email will do. Technology has a way of bridging the distance between loved ones, you can even avail of online flower deliveries to surprise your mom.

There are a lot of ways to show our Mother how greatly we value the love that they have shown us. I does not need to be expensive. The most important thing for Moms, just like me, is that you have remembered this special day, no matter how busy you are. For my kids,  I truly miss their hand made cards. (wink)

Summer Activities

Summer break is now here. And for most moms, it is inevitable for them to look for summer activities for kids. For one, kids will be very bored at home unless you want them to stay in front of their console, PC or the TV the whole day. Second, it's not healthy to do that.

As for my kids, my daughter will continue with her cheer leading summer camp just like the previous summers. My son, on the other hand, is thinking of pursuing his piano lessons and his basketball summer camp. I guess as long as the price is reasonable, I'll consider these activities. And if they want more .... Hmmmm? That will entail a lot of consideration. Just like the other day, I have been hearing of guitar lessons... well, I guess I can consider buying an eMedia Guitar Method. It's a lot more reasonable for the two of them, whatchathink???

For my sanity, I need them to get out of the house more so they won't gang up on each other and bug me all day. Teeeheeeheee.

Now for my activities, well aside from one out-of-the country trip, which is already done. I have scheduled a couple of road trips with different sets of people. I just thank the Lord that He continues to bless our family so we can afford these little comforts that we are experiencing.

Express Yourself

Who says raising a teenager is a easy? With their raging hormones coupled with peer pressure, raising a teenage kid requires creativity, determination and a lot of patience.

Let them be. When my lovely daughter stopped going to the supermarket with me, it broke my heart but I understood. It's but natural for teenagers to break away from their parents. Now, I have two and I have come to accept that I will be doing the grocery on my own, unless they really need something to buy for themselves. Oh mind you, I use that as an excuse to drag them to the supermarket. Teeeheeehehe.

Communication is the key. A couple of weeks ago, my daughter have been dragging to have her second ear piercing. I told her to ask permission from her dad. As much as I want to allow her, I need my daughter to understand that she needs to respect her dad's decision. Yesterday, she finally had the courage to ask her dad and today, she got her ears pierced. I can see how happy she is, to be able to express herself in her own way.

Mutual Respect. Respect is earned. Not because I am their mother, I have all the right in the world to invade their privacy. I have a lot of respect for their privacy just as much as I want them to respect mine. I do not read their text messages, I respect their time alone inside their room and let them do their stuff with their friends. Just as long as they do not do anything foolish that would hurt other people and themselves, I am fine with it. Enjoying freedom in our household has its boundaries and they need to be able to respect that too.

Being a mother to two teenagers, is a lot of hard work. But I believe that communication is at the center of all relationships. I communicate with my children all the time and explain to them that I understand what they are going through. More importantly, I let them feel that they can talk to me about anything, I don't shut them off. I let them express themselves and so far, so good... Right now, we are talking about college degrees, and I keep reminding them that I will not interfere in whatever course they want to take just as long as they want it. As to the schools, it all depends on what course they will take. I will respect and support their decision even if they want to take a degree online, as long as they are happy, they should pursue it.
